Hello again Bassfam! Welcome to the second installment of our newest segment, West Coast Wednesdays; where we showcase some of the hottest releases of the week from the west coast of North America.
In addition to our top five, we also have two more things for you to check out this week. First, is a review of Shlump‘s latest LP on Saturate Records which you can check out Here. Second, is an exclusive premiere of a free remix of Flume‘s track “Some Minds” by the one and only Huglife. You can grab that one right Here. Now that you’ve got that info, let’s get started on the top 5 releases of the week.
First off, and in no particular order, is this insane new remix of Mr. Carmack by Woolymammoth. This Northern California badman is fairly new to the scene, but his dark & heavy sound is quickly gaining him support from fans and artists alike. This remix flexes everything Woolymammoth is great at, and is sure to do the same to your speakers. Grab the free download below and f*cking brace yourself, because this is massive.
Yesterday, one of our favorite female producers of the year, Mija, released her remix of Major Lazer‘s “B2gether”, and it’s been on repeat ever since. One of OWSLA’s top two picks of 2015, Mija has been on a wild bass fueled ride of epicness all summer long and shows no signs of slowing down. DJing & producing everything from bassline house, to trap, & D&B, Mija’s diversity and consistent skill keep us constantly excited for her newest tunes, and this one is no exception. Twisted vocals, smooth subs, and gentle synths all come together to make this remix one for any music lover’s playlist. Check it out below, and be sure to keep on eye on Mija‘s shenanigans as the year wraps up!
Next up is a release that every trap music fan & DJ has been waiting for ever since its announcement, The Uppers Remixes. Released today under the infamous Hot Damn Records, this release features two epic remixes of the iconic single by Mr. Carmack & Stooki Sound. The first remix is a massive, massive banger from the young rising star Quix that’s sure to drop some jaws on its way around the circuit this year. The second is the only jersey club edit I’ve ever heard that I actually like, and that in itself is amazing. Make sure to grab these two below!
The biggest west coast release of this week was undoubtedly the Monday drop of Nor-Cal native Shlump‘s “Alien Shit” LP on Saturate Records. Featuring remixes from Trevor Kelly, The Originalz, & Sayer his massive release is absolutely dripping with a filthy, alien style west coast swagger that is sure to put your subs to the test. Check out our full review here.
Finally, our last artist, Ekali, hails from the Canadian west coast city of Vancouver, and has been absolutely crushing it with his hard hitting and immaculately produced trapstyle music. Representing Flow-fi & Chapel Sound, Ekali’s music is part of a coast to coast movement of nuanced bass music that is quickly gathering steam. Last week Too Future re-uploaded his incredibly popular mix for them which you can check out below, and this week he released a drum kit for all the producers out there that you can grab right here. Be sure to keep an eye on Ekali and all the artists in this collective, we have a feeling that even bigger things are on the horizon.
Until next week bassheads!
