Instagram has quickly become one of the foremost social media hubs for young adults, so it stands to wonder why the platform would move to ban one of the most popular and highly used hashtags around: #EDM.
Announced this morning alongside their latest move to monetize with Instagram advertising API, their reasoning is non-specific but points a heavy finger at pictures involving drug use or nudity. Relating their statement to a previous hashtag ban of “#curvy,” which “was being used to share content that violates our guidelines around nudity,” Instagram goes on to state that they…
“block certain hashtags when they are consistently being used to share images and videos that violate our Community Guidelines.”
Still, no specific reason has been mentioned revolving around the ban of #EDM, but feel free to search it on the Instagram platform – the results will surely surprise you.
