Before getting into his newest remix, let’s recount all of the pop-punk acts Kasum has brought back into our lives. It started with Smash Mouth then went Green Day, The Fray, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Yellow Card, Sum 41, Paramore, Panic At The Disco!, and finally Blink 182 until today. The only two bands I thought he hadn’t hit were Bowling for Soup and Third Eye Blind, but that changed when he unloaded his newest remix of “Semi-Charmed Life.”
Returning back to the song that Kasum says “defined [his] summer,” the Boston by way of NYC producer finds the perfect balance of recognizable, vintage lyrics and new age beats. Kasum uses the upbeat nature of Third Eye Blinds smile-inducing croons and puts a post-tropical trap twirl on a classic 90s jam to give it a high-octane boost. Once again, Kasum blows us away with his innovative take on past hits.
