Hailing from Canterbury in Kent, Suffix is rapidly gaining the favor of house music icons Annie Mac, Lane 8, Moon Boots, and more. His latest release, the Gold Rush EP is a lush concoction of breezy house and bass music primed for a sunset balcony party.
The title track, “Gold Rush,” is a crunchy take on the UK house synth pads of yesteryear, funking up the melodic progression with pumping chimes and bubbling oscillations. There’s some pizzicato thrown in at the break to keep everything spritely, and accentuated stabs complement the vocal cuts and steady percussion. Everything is allowed to breathe in its proper place, making for a full frequency tune that’s right at home in the pool house.
“Always You” features a heavy hip-hop influence, structuring its frolicking components around the bass line for a more atmospheric tune. There’s no shortage of wavering synths or floating riffs, and it certainly rounds out the downtempo end for the two track EP.
