Children are the future, at least that’s what we’ve been taught since we were young. This week, the focus has really been on finding and discovering young talent. First, Steve Angello announced that his remix contest for “Children of the Wild” was only open to producers 15 and under. Last night, Skrillex announced that he’ll be donating thousands of dollars of Pioneer music equipment to youth centers in Canada.
The project is in conjunction with Bridges for Music, an organization aimed at partnering with high-profile music industry leaders to help raise global awareness about local issues through music. Skrillex’s Full Flex Express Tour throughout Canada will include multiple opportunities for children to learn about music. A local youth center at every tour stop will receive two CDJ2000s and a DJM 900 mixer, as well as a short demo. Children will also be invited to the show’s soundcheck to learn more about what it takes to produce a show. In addition, proceeds from ticket sales will help Bridges for Music build a music school in South Africa.
Fans outside of Canada can also directly get involved on BfM’s crowd-funding page too. Donations give fans a chance to win a full VIP trip to hang with Skrillex at any of his North America Shows, Electric Family bracelets, and official Jack Ü merch signed by both Skrillex and Diplo. As far as charitable intiatives from the EDM community, this could be one of the biggest projects we’ve seen yet.
