In the business of receiving music promos, you get a pretty good variety of quality pitches. Some are decent, some grab your attention immediately, most still need work – but occasionally, you get something that gets you up out of your seat and dancing. And that’s when you know you’ve got a true hit on your hands.
We received this submission from Lemaitre today entitled “Closer” featuring vocalist Jennie A, and it took our breath away. Featuring elements of French turntablist group C2C, French electro swing ensemble Caravan Palace, and French duo Justice, this track is decidedly French – despite Lemaitre’s Norwegian origins.
Between the crunchy bassline, the ’20s-style trumpet, and that swing rhythm, not to mention Jennie A’s fantabulous voice, this is one of my favorite tracks of the year. I could listen to this over and over and over and over… I think I’m going to do just that. Won’t you join me?
