For longtime fans of Deadmau5‘s work, the rare Soundcloud upload is worth its weight in gold. A month after his last sound “Beneath 02” saw the light of day, we’ve finally received another small snippet of what Joel has been working on.

Taking the vocals from UK rapper Shotty Horroh, Deadmau5 reworks the production from their 2014 collaborative track “Are You Not Afraid?“ and combines the two into a simple and jazzy hip hop beat. He even lays down a funky bass guitar line, recorded live.
In the new version, Joel substitutes the growling synths and overly-clean mixing for a more organic, live-band feel with real recordings and a hip hop focus. Compare the two by listening to the original below.
