While everyone’s got their panties in a bunch over Major Lazer’s “Lean On,” A Boy & A Girl and Reid Speed have taken to covering the actual classic “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers.
The cover retains a lot of the emotion from the original vocals while still managing to turn the 40+ year old tune into a 100 BPM twerk banger. It might seem at odds to remix such a classic in such a way, but in this era of creative freedom, I say “Kudos” to A Boy & A Girl and Reid Speed for taking that leap – not to mention it actually sounds really dope.
The track weaves through styles of twerk, trap and jersey club to keep it interesting and deep. The contrast between Bill Withers’ sultry vocals and the 808 snares is also pretty interesting.
