Amidst the fresh controversy of Ten Walls‘ homophobic outburst and resultant booking cancellations from HARD Summer to Creamfields and Mysteryland NL, Lithuania’s president has stepped forward to address the primary issue at hand: Lithuania’s general intolerance of people of different inclinations and races.
“I believe the incident benefits the state in a way that, in this country, we are becoming more and more open in our discussions about how insular we are, our intolerance of people who are different, as well as homophobia. I believe discussions are a healthy thing, we need more of them, as the sooner Lithuania becomes more open and more tolerant, the better it will be for the country.”
-Lithuanian President, Dalia Grybauskaitė
So, although Ten Walls may have ruined his career, he seems to have opened up a much bigger door that leads to questions regarding his countries’ need to progress from their intolerance. A conversation of immense importance, no doubt.
