By now you’ve surely heard about the tragic earthquake that struck the small yet densely populated country of Nepal. The 7.8 magnitude tectonic shift and its accompanying aftershocks were responsible for the deaths of over 8,000 people, as well as leaving roughly 19,000 injured. It’s been one month since the initial quake and many of the victims remain homeless and in need of basic supplies; with monsoon season quickly approaching, the United Nations are calling out for more aid from the world at large.
In this trying time, we as music curators and creators must lend a hand in whatever way we can. Street Ritual and Be Green Records are currently leading the charge in that regard, teaming up to compile a massive compilation album for the benefit of Nepalese relief. The album spans 31 tracks of rich sonic textures, from soothing downtempo ambience to more glitchy, modulated bass music. Contributions come from all over the artistic spectrum, with iconic composers like Ill Gates found alongside exciting up & comers like Intellitard, Knowa Lusion, and Pockitz. To top everything off, legendary visual artist Android Jones lent his talents to the cover art.
Proceeds from the Nepalese Relief Benefit Compilation will be directed to conscious relief organizations already on the ground, allowing the album and its contributors to make a greater impact on aid efforts with each purchase. Save the Children, Doctors Without Borders, and Music for Relief will all receive a portion of the funds generated from album sales, so definitely think about donating to the cause.
