Steve Aoki Gets A Documentary

Steve Aoki is firing on all fronts. There’s the upcoming LAoki show in collaboration with the city of L.A., Neon Future II releases tomorrow, and now Relativity has acquired U.S. distribution rights to a Steve Aoki documentary entitled I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead.

Steve Aoki started his career 17 years ago from his college apartment, and as fun and carefree as his life may seem, he has made serious sacrifices to get to the top. In a recent interview with Katie Couric about his upcoming album, Aoki opened up about continually striving to gain his father’s approval. Tragically in 2008, prior to Steve’s breakthrough, his father, Rocky Aoki, passed away. A former Olympian wrestler and the restaurant tycoon behind Benihana’s, Aoki senior doubtlessly instilled much of the work ethic that Steve displays today.

Filmed during the making of Aoki’s Neon Future two-part album, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead stories this timeless father/son relationship and follows the international superstar on a trajectory towards playing the biggest show of his life.

To keep fans sated until the documentary’s release, Steve Aoki’s Neon Future II will feature collaborations with Snoop Lion, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer, and even spoken word from J.J. Abrams (yes, the Hollywood director).
