Complex Breaks Down The Numbers Of Your Favorite Music Festivals

People love music festivals, there’s no denying that. The festival industry has boomed over the past decade with large festivals, like Coachella, Bonnaroo and Ultra, leading the pack. Each year, tens and hundreds of thousands of people descend on (sometimes incapable) towns to celebrate music, art and food.

But how much impact do these festivals have? How much does an average person spend on a bottle of water? How much has the price increased since a festival’s inception? These are all questions answered by Complex, in this nifty video below.

According to the video, festivals often attract crowds larger than bustling metropolitan cities like Miami or Atlanta. And some of the largest festivals, like Bonnaroo and Coachella, bring in crowds that vastly outnumber their native population. Last year, Electric Daisy Carnival made nearly as much money as Guardians of the Galaxy, the #3 highest grossing movie of 2014.

Festivals have become a staple in our culture and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.
