Since Jack Ü’s album release, the internet has been flooded with countless remixes and covers, but this one is special. Ember Island is stepping forward with this remarkable interpretation of “Where Are Ü Now.”
Ember Island is a Swedish trio that aims to transcend the new wave of electronic indie-pop, an aspiration made quite clear in their approach to writing material. The atmosphere in this cover is warm yet melancholic, and they even found a way to improve upon that infectious recorder melody. The trio has also provided a visual component which complements the track beautifully. Most of the film takes place in a thoughtfully illuminated barn, at times cutting to slow motion walks through tranquil spring landscapes.
You can pick up the cover on iTunes, and if you’re into what Ember Island is up to, be sure to check out their interpretation of Porter Robinson’s “Sad Machine.”
