The David Guetta nightmare continues with his new collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas, “Awesome,” where he is a feature. Premiered live at Coachella, I’m not sure what’s worse: the instrumental or the lyrics. Although their premiere collaboration “I Gotta Feeling” was extremely well received and jump started Guetta’s career, I am positive this record won’t be favored in a similar fashion.
Perhaps the target audience is 13 year-old kids, because no other demographic that we are familiar with would find enjoyment in someone yelling “this is awesome” over and over on a disjointed and boring instrumental. The worst part comes at 4:30 when will.i.am attempts to rap and is so far off-beat that he resorts to muttering, and eventually gives up completely for the last four bars of verse.
Who am I kidding, the whole thing is an embarrassment to music; Taboo proves my point even further by screwing around on his phone throughout the entire performance… while playing prime-time Coachella.
We honestly can’t believe our eyes or ears… can you?
