Mura Masa – Someday Somewhere EP

Mura Masa is one of those names you’re going to want to remember. His style of production is eclectic, but his skills are undeniable. Young Alex Crossan finds himself in that realm of young producers absolutely killing the game. His future bass/jersey club stylings would put himself in squarely with any of the top collectives of today, such as Hegemon or Moving Castle. His debut release last year, Soundtrack To A Death, absolutely stunned me – but this time, he’s done something truly, truly special.

With this latest release, Someday Somewhere, Mura Masa has cemented himself as an artist to watch. I can’t really say enough good things about this work, so I’ll keep it brief. The basic theme is future bass, but the way that he seamlessly combines so many complementary styles is nothing short of incredible. The production is on point, and with collaborations from Nao, Denai Moore, and Jay Prince, the EP forms itself as a stellar representation of direction of modern music.

My favorite track: “your bones.” It’s like the beautiful love child of Sylvan Esso and the xx, minimalist singer/songwriter and excellently produced.

I love it.
