Ladies On Deck: Sydney Blu

Sydney Blu, on top of having a great first name in this author’s opinion, has established herself as one of the most prominent female DJs in the world. Starting her career in the local dance scene in her native country of Canada, Blu moved to Miami in 2010 to take a residency at Mansion night club. Soon after, she launched a massive world tour, headlining major clubs including Pacha NYC, Space (Miami and Ibiza), Avalon in Los Angeles, Beta Nightclub in Denver, and the since shuttered Guvernment Nightclub in Toronto. She has also made the lineup for Mexico’s BPM Festival and opened for deadmau5 during his 2011 Meowingtons Hax Tour, of which the tour’s last stop at the Rogers Centre in Toronto was deemed the biggest dance event in Canadian history.

As a producer, Blu has constantly delivered hit tracks, including her singles “Give It Up For Me” and “Senses of the Mind” released on the mau5trap label, which both broke Beatport sales records. Her 2011 live album “Sydney Blu: Live at Mansion” was also a huge success on the iTunes Dance Charts. In 2009, she launched her own label, Blu Music, featuring artists from various genres including techno, electro and progressive house. She also curates her annual Blu Party during Miami Music week, featuring such names as Thomas Gold, John Dahlback, Funkagenda, Kevin Saunderson, Technasia and Pleasurekraft.

2015 looks to be another busy year for Sydney, having already released her tech house EP Vnderground, a house EP Need I Say More with D. Ramirez, and currently working on her next album Relentless, due out later this year. Check out her BandsInTown.com page to catch her upcoming tour dates.
