Coachella & Lollapalooza Ban Selfie Sticks

Party people, your dreams have all been… destroyed.

Okay, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration, but you won’t be bringing selfie sticks with you to some of the biggest festivals this year. Both Coachella & Lollapalooza have taken a stand against the device, which is sure to hurt sales, as festivals are surely one of its biggest applications.

More festivals are expected to follow suit which may ultimately be a sign of the short-lived device’s doom.

But hey, we aren’t complaining; in fact we encourage you to put away your phone entirely and live in the moment (don’t worry, someone else is recording it for the internet). However, we know that won’t happen for many of our readers, so you’ll have to rely on the tried-and-true original “selfie stick” at music festivals this year: your arm:

“Non-professional photo and video cameras will be allowed, and must be without equipment attachments such as selfie sticks, tripods and monopods.”-Lollapalooza

Many attendees could do just as well to use their eyes and experience the magic first-hand. Phones and other devices have been known to take your attention away from an event and cancel an effect called “immersion.” It’s that feeling where you somewhat lose yourself in the music and moment… not really possible when you have a device showing you the time in your face.

Check out how some of EDM’s A-Listers were called out by Diplo for being on their phones too much.
