While the shift from successful producer into label head is common within the music industry, the reverse doesn’t always hold true. You can find examples of the former everywhere you look in the music industry, such as Claude VonStroke and his label, dirtybird, and Hardwell and his label, Revealed Recordings, while the latter is rarely accomplished. Sean Glass, the son of Daniel Glass, the founder of Glassnote Records, is hoping to make the shift from successful label head into superstar producer. Glass founded his own label, Win Music, with the signing of the house icon, Duke Dumont, and immediately saw tremendous success with the label, as Dumont’s first track on the label, “Need U 100%,” was nominated for a Grammy. Now, hoping to follow in Dumont’s footsteps, the Win Music boss has made his introduction to the world as a producer, with a remix of “Long Way Down” by Robert DeLong.
The remix, which was first premiered on Jason Bentley’s Metropolis show on KCRW, highlights Glass’s immense musical talent, as he invigorates the track with a disco-house energy. Clearly inspired by DeLong’s indie-electro roots, Glass’s remix is an expert blend of indie rock and electronic, as Glass ups the tempo on DeLong’s vocals, while adding a harder bassline and chopped and screwed vocal samples.
