Looks like dance music is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves. Last night at SXSW, mtvU hosted its annual Woodie Awards, a celebration of indie music. In recent years, it has begun to include more DJs to the list of rockers and rappers, with Kygo, Flying Lotus, Jack Ü, and Porter Robinson joining this year’s list of nominees. Porter, whose Worlds album and tour swept the country last year, beat out Sam Smith, FKA Twigs, J.Cole, Run the Jewels, and Charlie XCX for Woodie of the Year, the show’s biggest award of the night.

In his acceptance speech, Porter hits all the major checkpoints by thanking his fellow nominees, the fans, his managers and record label, but he also thanks Skrillex for giving him a platform before stating that he thinks there’s a bright future for electronic music (and we agree!). Porter must have been on a high for the rest of the night, as he decided to celebrate his win by hitting the Mad Decent after party and playing a surprise set. If you’re still at SXSW today, keep your eyes and ears open, for a source close to him hinted that Porter might have a few more tricks under his sleeve this weekend.

Watch the whole thing below, and for all those wondering, yes, that is The Fat Jew in assless chaps giving Porter the award…
