With Miami’s week of parties, pools, and pounding bass quickly approaching, Beatport recently sat down with 20 of the top DJs set to host some of this year’s festivities. In a brief survey, they revealed their predictions for the hottest tracks set to play out during the week. Undoubtedly, the songs that foster the most attention at this event will carry over into the summer, setting the tone for 2015’s overall sound.
Among the DJs who participated were Nervo, Markus Schulz, DJ Craze, AC Slater, and Sander Van Doorn. While most took the opportunity to tip their hat to their fellow producers, some like Josh Wink and Claptone took the cheeky route and used the opportunity to promote their own songs. With this kind of roster, however, we can surely be confident in their predictions for the outcome of these tracks. Nervo: “We think ‘Alarm’ by Dzeko & Torres, because the sound is so big and it kind of reminds us of the classic ‘Sandstorm’ by Darude which we love. This is definitely mainstage peaktime material. It is a louder than life crowd pleaser. Dzeko & Torres are really great producers. We think they’re going to have a huge 2015.”
Claptone: “Dear Beatport, I wish there was a charming way for me to say this, but I’m afraid there just isn’t. So I’m gonna be honest with you: My remix for the amazing Gregory Porter is the essential tune at WMC this year.
I am aware that this may sound a bit pretentious coming from me, Claptone. But what am I to do? Lie to you? I just couldn’t. Thank you to everyone on Beatport that has supported the remix and helped it get to number one in the lead up to Miami. I hope it provides the soundtrack to a great event for you all. And maybe our paths will cross at the Ultra Music Festival when I debut my show ‘Claptone Immortal Live’? See you on the live stage…”
Yousef: “Two tracks that will stand out this year are Krankbrother’s ‘Circular Thing’ and my own track ‘Let Go.’ Both have been working for me around the world for the best part of six months.
The tracks are very different. Krankbrother’s is a quirky, almost oddball kind of bass house cut but with all the sensibilities of authentic house. My track ‘Let Go’ features Keiran Fowkes on vocals, and it’s a loopy, gnarly, almost stomping vocal cut that’s relentlessly hypnotic. Both tracks have one killer crescendo each, both are underground but very hooky and both are available on Circus Recordings.”
AC Slater: “If we (myself, Petey Clicks and Bones) had to choose only one song from our list that will be played in Miami, it would be ‘Function.’ This song has everything you need to get a party started: trademark Dirtybird blips and bleeps, an epic build up, the word ‘ass,’ a familiar sample, and a banging bassline.”
