Diplo has been known to be quite vocal on the internet, often in ways intended to poke fun at people or things without serious implication. However people on the internet take things at face value, and when tweets from a celebrity are just the slightest bit provocative, the clamor begins.
Throughout Diplo’s career he can point to one particular instance that he regrets more than almost any other. In an interview with British GQ Style, the Philadelphia native divulges that his tweet directed at Taylor Swift requesting “someone should make a kickstarter to get Taylor Swift a booty” was one of the biggest mistakes of his career.
All I know is don’t ever get into a feud with Taylor Swift. She has like 50 million people that will die for her. You can’t step into that arena. That was something I was never prepared for … one of the biggest mistakes of my career was definitely fucking with her.
He’s made it clear in the past of his dislike for the self-proclaimed Swifties, however, describing their death threats and coinciding irrational anger as “…really bizarre, and disgusting. They’re the worst people in the world…”
