Caro Emerald – Pack Up The Louie (Caravan Palace Remix)

It’s been a while since Caravan Palace has released new music. Their 2012 album Panic was absolutely incredible and I was fortunate enough to see them on their first US tour in Los Angeles, still considered one of my favorite live shows ever. Though, it’s been nearly a year since we’ve heard new original music. That day still hasn’t come, technically, but we’ve got the next best thing.

Caravan Palace have remixed another swing group, Caro Emerald, to perfection.

From the very first chord, you hear that gramophone influence on the sound, and the characteristic swing rhythm, and you’re drawn in. For those unfamiliar with the genre, electroswing takes all the best parts of swing – the rhythm, the emotion, the tempo – and melds it with modern electronic influences, giving it a modern-yet-timeless feel. This track, though not an original, is a perfect example of how the music can be energetic and calm at the same time. The rhythm and vocals are quick paced by the bass and kicks are slower, creating this dichotomy in your head – it can be difficult to find the rhythm at first, but once you do, you don’t forget it.

As for what this means for Caravan Palace and their future, well… I would have to think that their first new release in 10 months means something. But who knows for sure?
