London based duo Delta Heavy has yet to disappoint me. Their unique, fierce sound dominates the bass music scene, with incredible music videos to match. We got a tiny glimpse of a VIP for “Turbine” last year in Andy C‘s Nightlife 6 as well as a Delta Heavy BBC Radio 1Xtra mix, though the VIP had yet to be released. This month, eager bassheads can finally grab the full “Turbine” VIP.
The VIP doesn’t stray extremely far from the jungle-esque original off of their 2012 EP Down the Rabbit Hole. The track starts with an intense buildup that then explodes into a barrage of bass and energy reminiscent of their recent release “Reborn”. The smooth breakbeats are paired flawlessly with gritty, mechanical bassline and a melody that filled me with the same air as the X-Files theme song. In my opinion, the VIP perfectly evolves the track without compromising the spirit of the original.
The “Turbine” VIP will be exclusively released as part of a massive RAMLife drum & bass compilation titled RAMiami, which will be available from RAM Records March 16th (available for pre-order on iTunes here). Take a listen below.
