Who doesn’t love a good silly story in the early hours of the morning?
Scientists alongside Dr. Charles Snowdon, a psychologist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, wanted to make music for cats. The reasons being that they discovered that pet owners liked to play radio music for their pets while they were away, perhaps to mitigate loneliness in their furred friends. Additionally, they have theorized that different species are actually able to enjoy music, with the only caveat being “the music has to be in the frequency range that the species uses to communicate and with tempos that they would normally use.”
In order to create music that would appeal to felines, Snowdon & Co. used sounds that mimicked natural cat sounds, utilizing “sliding notes and high pitches–cat calls tend to be an octave or more above human voices.” And you know what? It seemed to work.
When the cat music was playing, the felines were significantly more likely to orient their heads toward it, walk toward it, and even rub up against the speaker.
“We interpret this as indicating that the cats showed a preference,” [said] Snowdon.
So what this all boils down to is this… that cat rave video that went viral could actually become a reality. Think about that for a second.
