Each year just ahead of Miami Music Week, Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records releases an annual Toolroom Miami compilation featuring what is anticipated to be the hottest tracks in house, tech house, techno and deep house and this year’s compilation does not disappoint. With 67 tracks and three mini-mixes, the compilation displays a diverse selection through the various genres, featuring legendary producers Todd Terry, Steve Lawler, Bassment Jaxx, Carl Craig (under the alias C2), The Cube Guys and, of course, Toolroom’s label head Mark Knight, as well as current favorites Recondite, Dusky, Audion, Booka Shade, Pleasure State (the trio formed by vocalist Anabel Englund and producers Marc Kinchen and Lee Foss) and many more.
Some of the tracks included in the compilation have already become staples of various DJs’ sets, including “Get Down,” an upbeat, groovy techno track, with darker tones reflecting the perfect mixing of collaborators Mark Knight’s house sound with Adrian Hour’s techno influences and the pair’s other contribution “Suzee,” which was featured recently on an episode of Max Graham’s Cycles Radio podcast. Dusky’s contribution, the deep house track “Yoohoo,” with its garage snares and Italo piano chords, has also found its place in a number of DJ sets and podcasts and was featured on Pete Tong’s Best of 2014. Other tracks that should be surefire hits include the C2 remix of Caribou’s “Your Love Will Set You Free,” tech house producer Booka Shade’s “Line of Fire,” UK duo Him_Self_Her’s “Conflict,” German house duo Tube & Berger’s “Highness” (the follow up to their 2014 smash “Come On Now (Set it Off)”), and Playless’ “Broken,” which should have no trouble gaining ground in the rising popularity of the deep house genre.
As a side note, if I were a gambling woman (I do live in Vegas, after all), I’d be willing to wager at least a few of these tracks will end up getting the future house remix treatment by Tchami and the like, most notably Prok & Fitch’s tech house track “Raw Cut” and Wild Culture’s “Day to Night,” a deep house take on the early-2000’s trance hit “Take Me Away.” In whatever form they may take, Toolroom has compiled a solid set of tracks destined to hit club sets around the world and most certainly will keep attendees of Miami Music Week dancing through the duration of the conference.
