Ed Keeley, also known as Friction, has been one of the biggest names in drum & bass in the UK since the early 2000’s. His talent has earned him numerous awards both for his DJ-ing proficiency and dnb production, and he was inducted into the Drum & Bass Arena Awards Hall of Fame in 2011. Since 2012, he has been running a drum & bass segment on BBC Radio 1, making Friction a household name in drum & bass worldwide.
Last year, Friction released the first volume of his Friction Vs. series featuring collaborations with Total Science, Fourward, and Jakes, and has now brought us its hard-hitting successor Friction Vs. Volume 2. Described as being comparable to a discussion of angels & demons, both tracks showcase Friction’s meticulous talent meshed into the unique sounds of each collaborator. “Crucifix”, which was the product of Friction vs. Shogun great Icicle, is dark and intense, with deep, gritty basslines and sounds that gave me the feeling of being immersed a science fiction thriller. Friction vs. UK duo Technimatic‘s “Floating Frames” is an entirely different experience, with a beautiful, calming melody layered with ethereal voices and smooth liquid percussion.
