Ghastly Welcomes Festival Season With Exclusive Mix

Ghastly has been making strides in the industry from the back of his van to skid row and now finds himself among the elite, playing out unreleased Tchami in this mix and all as an OWSLA favorite.

The story of Ghastly starts in the desert of Arizona amidst a poor farm family where the young David learned piano on a keyboard and began his musical career as a vocalist in a death metal band. After quitting the band and attending community college for a brief stint, David decided his fate lay in a musical career; make it or break it.

He left behind everything and moved to Venice Beach to live out of his van while writing beats on a laptop in a Jack In The Box parking lot (so he could make use of their wi-fi). From there he moved to Skid Row and released his first OWSLA tune, but still struggled hard for the first three years of his career. David was barely employed due to his focus on the music, working on-and-off as a door to door salesman, after-school teacher, server, host, sales clerk, background actor, assistant, camp counselor, & more; and only found his first real break after answering a craigslist ad looking for electronic music production from Static Revenger. This relationship lead to his close friendships with Jauz and Sullivan King which today are invaluable as sources for both inspiration and moral support.

Eventually Ghastly released on Buygore due to these new friendships, met Amber, aka Mija, and wrote “Crank It” in one day. The omnipotent Skrillex soon took notice and released the record on OWSLA this winter, which has lead to a resounding surge for Ghastly’s career. Playing shows on a consistent basis and with plenty of unreleased tunes in his arsenal, this young star has a very bright future and we are honored to bring you this exclusive mix today.

“This mix features an eclectic assortment of my friends and fellow artists who are all pushing the boundaries of house music and further blending the merge between genres of house / hip-hop / and future bass along with several of my own unreleased tracks”
