Chet Faker’s Built On Glass was probably one of the most criminally underrated and underexposed albums of this year. Its soft melodies and intricate rhythms spoke to fans of dance music and indie music alike, often bringing together the two crowds at his live shows.
This year’s triple j Hottest 100 list, after being trolled by “anti-hipster” jerks and T-Swift admirers, was released yesterday to large acclaim. Triple J’s goal is not to necessarily focus on the smallest indie bands, who “no one has ever heard of,” but to promote the really great bands that should be bigger. More well known groups on the list include Röyksopp, Duke Dumont, and CHVRCHES, but there are plenty that fewer people have heard of like Thelma Plum, The Avener, or clipping.
However, the man to dominate the list taking four spots including the #1 track for “Talk Is Cheap” was Chet Faker. With three of the tracks listed from Built On Glass, and the other actually being a cover of Sonia Dada’s “(Lover) You Don’t Treat Me No Good” that in fact was performed on triple J, Chet has definitely got a lot of fans in Australia and abroad.
Built On Glass was the debut album from Chet Faker, and reached #1 on the Australian Albums chart, and #2 on the US Top Heatseekers Albums chart. It has also reached platinum status in Australia.
