Mightyfools – Garuda (Spinnin Records)

On December 18th of last year, Spinnin Records shared a video on their Facebook page with the caption “New stuff coming soon!”

The video itself was a preview for an upcoming track that had many people guessing the artist. Some thought it was Oliver Heldens, others thought it might be Firebeatz, some people even thought it could be R3hab – but eventually, it was revealed to have been made by none other than Mightyfools. “Garuda” is an interesting track because it doesn’t box itself in one genre, sound or style. Instead, it takes the best elements of future house, electro house and even big room to create a hybrid track that truly feels unique from anything else out there. A festival-like energy is present in the song but alongside this, there is also a degree of bounce and groove that you often hear in the more recent future house tracks from the past year. It’s a fine line between paying homage to something and ripping it off; thankfully, while the influences for “Garuda” are apparent, the song never feels like it’s trying to be something it’s not.

Out tomorrow but available to stream right now, “Garuda” looks like it could be one of the big hits of 2015.
