After eight albums released on independent record labels like Om Records and Ultra Records, it seems that Grammy-nominated dance music producer, Kaskade, has signed a contract with Warner Brothers. Though financial terms have not been disclosed, the deal includes two full albums with the label. While it seems to be an admission of the necessity of major label support, Kaskade remains optimistic and outspoken on the subject of placing artistry over publicity. Says the 43-year old:
I was always cautious to make the move from independent to major. I feel like the majors have such an agenda…and although I’m a producer, I’m an artist first. I don’t need the factory behind me. I just need help getting my music heard. When I met with Cameron Strang (Warner Bros. CEO) and shared my vision with him, I felt like, okay, this guy gets it.
Given how increasingly saturated and competitive the electronic scene has become, this is a big move on Warner Music‘s part as well. They’ve thrown their hat into the ring in a big way, but, fortunately for them, the timing couldn’t be better. Kaskade will soon begin an exclusive residency at Wynn Las Vegas, which includes performances at the newly refurbished XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club spanning from this month through January 2017. And while he’s never broken through to the world of radio play, he does have three Grammy nominations under his belt, as well as headlining appearances at massive festivals like Coachella and more across the country.
