Ben Prok and James Fitch have been a consistent fixture in the tech-house scene for years. Hailing from Brighton, they’ve enjoyed success mainly through Toolroom Records, but also run their own label Floorplay Music. Today, Prok + Fitch drop their Raw Cut EP, a 2-track release, just in time for those of you traveling to Mexico for BPM. Instead of traditional album art, the duo include a short statement about their latest release:
For us House Music is all about the groove, it always has been & always will be, regardless of changes in music trends. We spend a lot of time keeping our drums sounding fresh, we believe this gives our music part of its true identity. Our musical roots stem from 90s house, for us that’s when it all began, we believe that hints of this will always appear in our music. This Raw Cuts EP is all about the music we love, it comes from the heart, simply us sitting in our studio making the music we want to play. They both create huge memorable moments in our DJ sets, moments that remind us why we love house music.
The titular track of the EP screams UK House, as soulful lyrics hypnotize the listener long after the track expires. It’s a shame the track isn’t extended, though at 4 minutes “Raw Cut” is suitable for radio play. Regardless of the duration, it’s sure to keep you dancing as long as you hear it. The B-side “A Little Dance” is a fun compliment to “Raw Cut.” Compared to the A-side it’s more stripped, but in doing so, the drums and bassline are highlighted much more. Overall, Prok + Fitch’s Raw Cut EP does well in blending new and classic elements of house music. Both tracks are perfect selections for overnight warehouse parties, European megaclubs, and more.
Prok + Fitch’s Raw Cut EP is out now on Toolroom Records and can be purchased exclusively on Beatport. Their mini North American Tour begins this Thursday at the Toolroom Showcase at BPM.
