Yes, you read that title correctly. It seems the lines between pop and dance music are continuing to blur as Madonna and Nick Jonas‘ latest releases are both taking high positions in Billboard‘s ‘Dance Club Songs’ and ‘Dance/Electronic Songs’ charts.
Though Madonna has flirted with EDM before, she now appears to be storming onto the scene with the debut of no less than three new tracks. Her collaboration with Nicki Minaj, ‘Bitch, I’m Madonna’, and another single from her upcoming album, ‘Living for Love’ both landed just outside of the top 10 upon their release. And speaking of her upcoming album, the whole project is being produced by the one and only Diplo, which is fairly telling of her plans for the future.
Nick Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, makes his dance music debut with the release of his hit single ‘Jealous’. It found a comfortable spot in the top 5, making this his first chart topping debut as a solo act. Though the original track is heavy on the pop side of things, it is definitely helped by remixes from more traditional electronic producers like Bent Collective and the Rooftop Boys.
What do you think, should these songs be considered electronic dance music? Give them a listen and let us know in the comments!
