The Large European Acoustic Facility, or LEAF, is the loudest sound system in the world. Able to produce over 154 decibels, the experience of listening to the system would be akin to standing next to multiple jets taking off.
Now I’m sure you’re wondering about the practicality of such an incredibly powerful device, but it does actually have a use. This particular facility is used to test spaceflight capabilities and the incredible sounds that satellites and other space objects have to endure.
With multiple safety procedures in place, it wouldn’t even be possible to subject a human to the massive sound of LEAF. Steel reinforced concrete walls are coated in an epoxy resin that serve to reflect audio waves back into the room, which is isolated by rubber bearing pads and can only be put into operation once doors are secured externally.
