Since 2004, Google has offered comprehensive breakdowns of the most common search queries made using their search engine. These findings are offered month by month or for the entire year, and are further broken down by country and search category. Just recently, Google published their findings for 2014, and some favorites from the world of electronic music made the list for top searches within the US.
Daft Punk, French electronic duo circa 1993, was the 9th most searched music artist of the year for the US, even with their last release being the 2013 album Random Access Memories. Google also provides data showing that searches for Daft Punk occurred closer to the beginning of the year, “Get Lucky” seemed to be the song of choice for the Googlers, and searches came most prominently from California. In the category of most searched music festivals for the US, California’s multi-genre Coachella topped the chart, featuring massive EDM headliners such as Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Zedd. Coming in second was New York’s EDM festival Mysteryland, which this year housed talent such as Dillon Francis and Kaskade on the mainstage. Other EDM festivals that made the top ten were HARD Summer and Electric Forest, in the 4th and 5th slots respectively.
