You couldn’t get through 2014 without hearing two things: Tchami and DJ Snake & Lil Jon’s “Turn Down for What.” And the two seem to share a common thread.
Tchami, aka Martin Bresso, has had an amazing year. Dance music has gone into a frenzy for future house, making him a household name. But Bresso also deserves credit for being a force behind the smash hit “Turn Down For What,” in which he has been listed as one of the song’s writers, producers, and even engineers.
The idea seems plausible; both are Parisian DJs who have been on the same lineups for some of the biggest festivals this year. It’s very likely that the two ran in similar circles back home, before having breakout years around the world (though DJ Snake has enjoyed a tiny bit more success, you know, with being nominated for a Grammy and whatnot..). But this is just another blip on the radar for DJ Snake, who was accused earlier this year for “stealing” Mercer’s edit of Prodigy’s breathe (although all parties involved claim that it was one big misunderstanding).
Props to Tchami for adding another feat to an already incredible year. We’ll find out in 2015 if “Turn Down For What” takes home the Grammy for Best Music Video to really cement the track’s place in musical history.
