Tomorrowland’s India Expansion Rumors Confirmed to be False

Back in October, we reported Tomorrowland‘s continuation for global expansion with possible plans in India. Regarding India’s music festival scene, Goa Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar had stated, “Apart from the proposal received from Percept & Supersonic (Vh1 India) to host music festivals in the month of December, we have also received a proposal of one of the most  notable global music festival group, Tomorrowland!”

Rumors on a Tomorrowland Goa had started to spread, but a recent interview with Tomorrowland’s spokesperson and press coordinator Debby Wilmsen confirms that those rumors are false.

When Bangalore Mirror asked Wilmsen about her discussions with the Goan government for the festival, Wilmsen responded, “Like I’ve mentioned, that is not true. We organise TomorrowWorld US together with SFX, maybe SFX has plans to do an event, but Tomorrowland is NOT coming to India.” This recent news only reinforces Wilmsen’s earlier statements to a Belgian-based newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws when she was quoted saying, “Tomorrowland is always exploring possibilities and options but in the immediate future, the full focus is on the first Brazilian edition in May 2015, next to the editions in Belgium and USA.”

Although Tomorrowland Goa may not be happening in 2015, given that “[Goa] is being sought after as a EDM festival destination” — as quoted by a senior tourism ministry official referencing a comment made by Parulekar —  we expect a large-scale EDM festival to come to India in the near future.
