CNN has included EDM in their “Ones To Watch” series and has gone as far as labeling electronic dance music a “global phenomenon.”
A $6.2 billion dollar industry, mainstream media and publications are beginning to feel the effects of the sensational scene. The most astonishing factoid to me, however, is that EDM is now more globally popular than R&B, Country, Jazz, and Reggae; live events make over $4.2 billion themselves.
As well, Avicii has the most played track on Spotify, ever, with “wake Me Up.” Number one in over 20 countries and still rising, the Swede has spent over a year on the Billboard top 100 chart for this record alone. And now CNN has labeled Armin Van Buuren as someone to watch for the future of music.
He holds down 5 number one DJ titles and boasts headlining performances at the grandest festivals in existence, all while taking a private jet to work and playing father to his tight-knit family.
I highly encourage you to check out their entire article, with more graphics and videos here on CNN, as they go into greater depth explaining the surge behind the electronic dance music scene and talking to the likes of David Guetta and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.
