Sandstorm Makes It Back Into The Charts Almost 15 Years Later

Technology has really made it possible for everyone to learn to DJ/Produce at home in ther own bedrooms. Even if they are still in high school or younger better. Very few DJs have been in the game long enough to know about the power of “Sandstorm” by Darude, and what it meant to dance music. I was an undergrad at University of Pittsburgh when this track dropped. The DJ that night probably spun on a compact disc at some out house party.

In all seriousness, it was easy to tell this song apart from the other electronic music at the time. Electronica wasn’t the world for me, even though many around me loved to rave every weekend. They all loved “Sandstorm.” Everyone did. Maybe that had something to do with its staying power, the fact that it was virally known by young music lovers across the globe. We sometimes forget that gaining that type of global popularity could possibly be an indication of the quality of this track.

Peking Duk’s performance at Stereosonic had the interesting aftereffect of getting “Sandstorm” back into the charts.
