Oh, Illenium… I’m running out of good things to say about you. Just f**king release an album already and get it over with, won’t you?
In Return is my #1 album of the year, and in my honest opinion, none of the remixes for the “Say My Name” contest did the original justice, or even came close to matching the splendor and excellence that is Odesza. When Illenium sent me this track, my initial reaction was “Thank God you didn’t remix ‘Say My Name’.” Remixes for other tracks on the album were good, but Illenium has gone above and beyond the call of duty.
Choosing the first track on the album, “Always This Late,” Illenium molds and mixes his unique style of melodic bass into the already beautiful original. The result can only be described as “heart-melting, whimsical, flowing magic.” Or at least, that’s what I’m going with.
According to the press release –
Illenium cites Odesza as a huge inspiration ever since interviewing them for a blog a year ago, “When I put on their new album, this song really set the mood. I wanted to put my own spin on something that was already timeless and beautiful to see what boundaries I could push.”
