Your EDM Premiere: Mr G Sings – The Caged Bird Sings [Ultra Music]

In the light of recent events, many producers have found a large sentimental bone in their bodies that propelled them to produce tracks of varying appropriateness. Some blatantly titled the track after those events, others went a more subtle but still particularly angled route with their music. With events such as these, without belittling the events that took place, I think everyone, at the back of their minds, just wants peace.

In this beautiful rendition of a tribute to Maya Angelou, whose first autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings brought her critical acclaim, Mr G Sings does not attempt to embellish the situation or his music anymore than is necessary. Without more than a simple melodic progression, filtered guitar and some kicks, this vocal-driven tune would have likely been the hit of the summer. As it stands now, the success of “The Caged Bird Sings” will likely dwindle despite its beautiful message and sentiment.

I’m not sure I would call it “brave” of Ultra Music to release a track like this on their label, but I’m glad that they did. This is a pick-me-up song, plain and simple. No turn up, no get down, all feels and no remorse. While it will not be commercially popular, I know of a large population of people that will include this track in their libraries and play it far too many times, and then some more.
