Caked Up is at it again, and the world knows thanks to ThisSongSlaps. Whether this is a case of two artists (or three, as it may be) simply using the same sample pack, or rather Caked Up feeling “inspired” from segments of Loudpvck & gLAdiator‘s single “Toney” featuring Nipsey Hussle, one fact remains; the lack of originality from the “vine-famous” duo is apparent. Even the vocal segment from the sample pack can be found in their remix, an ammature mistake.
The greater issue at hand, however, is the overall lack of originality in popular EDM. With major, headlining acts pulling unoriginal melodies and sounds from sample packs we are left to wonder why these “artists,” who are making thousands of dollars a night and seemingly don’t have the time to produce original content with their packed tour schedules, don’t choose instead to take time off to spend working in their studios; or merely invest in talented ghost producers.
EDIT: The release dates may speak for themselves as Tony was officially released 8/26/14 and the sample pack was made available on Beatport 11/4/14.
