Moody Good’s self-titled debut album shook the foundations of homes – literally. The bass-fueled, hip hop-injected Moody Good LP was a breath of fresh air, so to speak. Amidst the numerous dubstep releases that flood SoundCloud everyday, his stood a head above the rest. Now, that album is finally getting pressed to vinyl.
Weighing in at 17 tracks (including a pair of vinyl-only bonus tracks) and manufactured on the EMI 1400 with bespoke gatefold sleeve, the album is limited to 500 copies.
One of those vinyl-only tracks is “Gatekeeper.” Believe me when I tell you that you need to sit down. Believe me when I tell you your jaw will drop. Believe me when I tell you that the entire vinyl package is worth it for this track. In preparing the review for this tune, I have listened to it over, and over, and over, and over again. Not simply because I wanted to soak in every little detail before I wrote about it, but because I just wanted to bask in the warm bass emanating from my sub.
The complexities within this track, whether it’s the halftime DnB rhythm or the subtle vocal samples, the neurofunk bass synths, or the signature Moody Good kick (and trust me, he has one), mean that you can listen to it repeatedly and still enjoy it more each time. If you could purchase this track without the vinyl, I would recommend it, because you’re going to wear that disc out in a matter of days.
