Still Young, a duo signed under Steve Angello’s Size Records, released their debut solo track “Midnight” late last month. Upon its first week of release, “Midnight” climbed its way up to the Beatport Top 10 Progressive chart (and you can purchase your copy here). With a strong start to their debut release, I caught up with the duo to learn more about their music, influences and upcoming projects.

Congratulations on your debut solo release “Midnight” climbing up Beatport’s Progressive chart! What was the inspiration behind “Midnight”?

The process or journey to “Midnight” for us is a very special moment. It was a track written after taking a long break from producing and going through some life issues. With that we really wanted to capture that emotion or feeling of these experiences without having to use vocals or lyrics to explain things.

How did the two of you come together to form Still Young, and how did you become part of Steve Angello’s Size Records?

We met each other at the local grocery store and grabbed the same orange. It was an instant connection. Lets just say Steve has been like a brother to us!

Who are some of your musical influences?

We have huge passion for everything 80’s music. Ranging from classic rock to funky disco. Everything from the likes of Metallica, Motley Crue, Kiss, ACDC, Giorgio Moroder, Sebastien Tellier, Daft Punk and countless others who inspire us. We also love what the Swedish House Mafia, including others like Eric Prydz, brought to the scene in terms of production. Even guys like Deadmau5, Skrillex — the range is really big. With us there are no genres, only good music!

You’ve also remixed “You” by Galantis and “Clean Bandit and Sharna Bass’s “Extraordinary.” What drew you to remix those tracks?

The challenge! Considering the time constraint for Galantis and trying to create almost something original to introduce or launch our sound to the world. With “Clean Bandit” it was the same thing. When we remix, we treat it no different;y then an original production.

What’s next for you? Any more remixes? I’ve also heard that a collaboration with Tom Starr is in the works?

So many goodies in the works. More releases? Yes, load and loads of new original singles, remixes and collaborations. Some new original bits for Size of course and some collaborations that we can speak about are with Kryder and yes, Tom Staar. The Tom Staar collab is almost ready after being tried and tested by Steve Angello at some recent major festivals. We are even starting some really big stuff with producers like CID. The reactions from fans and other artists has been absolutely fantastic so stay tuned, it’s go time!
