Taleen’s Selections:

1. Adriatique – Rolling Stone (Original Mix) [Culprit]

Adriatique delivers very eclectic sounds throughout his productions, and his single of “Rolling Stone” is definitely one of my personal favorites. “Rolling Stone” is one of the featured tracks off of his stellar Midnight Walking EP through Culprit. They craft a dark, thick tune through haunting vocals and eclectic rhythms. Also, the futuristic sounds that occur in the second half of the track are simply sublime. It’s just a perfect track!

2. Tiga vs. Audion- Fever (Maetrik Remix) [Turbo Recordings]

I actually haven’t heard of Maetrik until I purchased the amazing Toolroom RecordsIbiza Underground 2014’ compilation as a part of their new, Techno-inspired label direction. While the original stands out on its own, the Maetrik remix definitely kicks things up a notch with his unusually brash rendition to “Fever”. Maetrik creates a suspenseful aura in each and every phrase with sporadically striking elements while implementing a subtle, yet chunky bass in the foreground. He keeps this flow all throughout the track while boldly experimenting in sounds and textures at random intervals.

3. Elon- Clap Back (Original Mix) [Metroline Limited]

This is really a love it or hate it track and if you are fortunate to be part of the former group, then you’ll fall head over heels for “Clap Back“. The first time I heard “Clap Back” was a few months back when I purchased the groovy Body Language Vol 10 mixed by M.A.N.D.Y. This track definitely stood out to me as I listened to the mix, and each time I re-listened, I just kept on pushing the back button to track number 6. A very raw and original track, the beat really draws you in as hypnotic, almost surreal landscapes unfold before your very ears. Additionally, a keen bass line and echoed, airy vocals definitely gives it that perfect, individualized touch.

Andrew’s Selections:

1. Tim Penner- On My Skin (James Monro Remix) [Proton Music]

Apart from the usual Techno fare, there is a hidden genre of Progressive Techno that combines the surreal aesthetics of Deep Progressive with a deeper inflection within the rhythmic department. I’ve been a huge fan of Tim Penner and his subversive world, and his new track entitled Under My Skin is simply sublime upon first listen. However, the fantastic talents of James Monro has reworked this wonder into a smooth, yet ferocious monster of a mix that keenly searches through the murky depths of the underground with cool, confident Techno bass lines and intriguing, exploratory sounds.

2. Mitch de Klein- Drum (Original Mix) [Brobot Records]

WOW, what a seriously hot track this little number is! Mitch de Klein is not known for notoriety within the Techno world, but he is infamous for coming out of left field with scorching rhythmic ideas and tantalizing groove implementations. Drum pairs low cut Techno basslines with one of the crispest and freshest percussions that I’ve heard within any Techno track this year and the connectivity between each instrument is almost baffling to consider. That drive is simply to die for!

3. The Stolers- Unveiled Psychic (Diatek Hell Is Near Remix) [Stolers Tech! Records]

One can imagine getting locked into a large scale industrial complex with this track, as it’s one of the hardest hitting remixes I have ever heard in my years as a Techno enthusiast. Diatek is known for his soul crushing bass lines and his curated tastes on psychotic German Techno, and each piece that he creates is destined to strike fear into the weak-hearted. In his ‘Hell Is Near’ mix, factory sirens and horror timbres are back-dropped by one hell of a bass line, and the pressure alone is enough to cause an explosive aneurysm in the brain. Good subs are a definite must to hear the true ferocity of this track!
