Your EDM Exclusive Interview: Yellow Claw Aim For Trap Royalty With The Upcoming Legends EP

IMG_5615

Though they haven’t been around for decades, it’s safe to say that Yellow Claw are slowly cementing their spot in the upper ranks of elite trap artists. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the Dutch trio have named their latest EP Legends, which is due out October 14 on Dim Mak Records.

The world is slowly coming around to the innovative new sounds of Amsterdam trap. Aside from Yellow Claw, artists like Wiwek and Cesqeaux are also bringing this new genre to the masses; the latter of which co-produced the Legends EP with Yellow Claw and joined the guys, along with Martin Garrix as GRX, on the haunting banger “Psycho.”

Fans of Yellow Claw recognize that they aren’t restricted to solely playing trap music and have incorporated other styles in their sets such as jersey club and even hardstyle. In a recent interview with Your EDM, they promised to never dilute their sound by playing cookie cutter Christian rock, but the question remains whether trap music can have the same success while EDM makes a push into mainstream radio play

“Absolutely,” they claimed. “We’re already doing it with our track ‘Shotgun’. It’s a difficult road though. The radio world is a very conservative one.”

Thus far, Yellow Claw has been everything but conservative in their career. The former supermarket employees, who claim it was “the worst job you could ever have…for three guys who hate air conditioning,” have thrown all of their efforts into making music, which has resulted in countless remixes for Iggy Azalea, Angger Dimas and more. Their diligence has also garnered them support from both Mad Decent and most recently, Dim Mak Records. “We would love to work with Young Thug! His voice is crazy,” they stated while discussing future collaborations.

Though the US festival season has reached the finish line, Yellow Claw has one last hurrah before the year’s end at Electric Daisy Carnival Orlando next month. This will award them the triple crown of EDCs, as they performed at both New York and Las Vegas this year as well. They credit these and other festivals as their inspiration for the Legends EP: “We’re going to premiere a new song at EDC. We always do; it’s for the love of EDC.”

Amsterdam Trap Music Volume 2 is out now on Mad Decent and the Legends EP will be available October 14th [Dim Mak].
