There’s been a ton of speculation as to who will take the #1 spot in the (controversial) DJ Mag Top 100 for 2014; Hardwell came out on top in 2013, but his rise has arguably been eclipsed by one particular name, someone Laidback Luke thinks has what it takes…
In talks with inthemix, Luke spoke highly of Martin Garrix, claiming there have been “whispers” around the scene regarding the 18-year-old’s meteoric rise over the past year and a half (since the release of ‘Animals’). While not necessarily shocking to think about today, prior to ‘Animals’ there was almost no public indication that Garrix would go on to jump over sidestage festival slots and right to the mainstage. However, although the #1 spot is nothing to balk at, Garrix did wind up at #40 on the polls last year; were it not for his “new entry” position then, he might have been the first DJ to enter at #1 in the chart’s history.
LBL had some more nice things to say about the Dutch wunderkid: “I really like Martin, he’s a very down-to-earth guy that’s just into it to make music and travel the world. He’s had this insane year and he’s still keeping up. I know that it’s tough going from a couple of local shows to the whole world circuit. Props to him and I hope he makes it.”
Until then, we’ll just have to wait until October 18th for the results to come to light and the #1 spot to be revealed.
