Organizers of this year’s Bestival decided to place amnesty bins at the entrance to the venue. The result was £25,000 worth of illegal drugs that were voluntarily turned in by festival-goers.
Bestival is a four-day event held in Robin Hill, on the Isle of Wight. The amnesty bins allowed attendees to anonymously turn over their drugs. Even with them in place, £25,000 worth of drugs were also seized throughout the weekend, leading to 62 drug offenses.
The bins seemed to make a dent, as the crime rate was down 12% from last year’s foray. Bestival had a ‘Desert Island Disco’ theme this year, and had performances by acts such as Disclosure, Major Lazer, Beck, and Outkast.
