Do all hard kicks make him sick? In a recent interview with Billboard, Nick van de Wall or Afrojack has made it abundantly clear that he is moving away from making music with hard kicks. After an hour-long set during the Made In America Festival in Los Angeles, Billboard sat down with the producer/DJ to ask him some questions about where is musical style his headed. Here’s his response.
“In Europe, not a lot of people do what I do. Here in America, everyone is trying to do the same thing. Here in America, they just figured out the hard kicks and everyone is like, ‘Oh my god, the hard kicks.’ I’ve been doing that for 10 years, and I don’t want to do that, so in Europe I can play a different set than in America. Right now, the whole EDM culture is really hard kick powered.”
Nick might only have a hand full of shows left in the states before heading back to Europe. In the interview, however, he promises to return with his new creative ambitions in the start of next year and believes they will be met well.
“I actually want to do a tour of America around January, February, because I’m pretty sure by the end of the year everyone is sort of finished with the nonstop boom, boom, boom for hours. Then I’m gonna take my chances and try some rehabilitation in music. I think in January is exactly the right time. Then every trick has been done with the hard kick and it’s time for something new. That’s what I’m working on now in the studio.”
If you’re wondering what Afrojack’s new sound could be and want to catch it before he’s off to Europe, catch him at his Vegas residency in Hakkasan or at All Hallow’s Eve Festival presented by Insomniac. If not, you can always check out his debut album Forget The World with many new songs from the man himself. He also recently collaborated with Martin Garrix on a track called “Turn Up The Speakers” which seems to be heavily based on hard kicks.

The guy who shots everyone : “We have to stop with all this violence”
Good and i would be glad to go to your shows
Im glad to see afrojack wanting to move away from big kicks! wether you hate him you do have to admit he is some what of a genius. Afrojack had a huge impact in dance music back in 2010 to 2011. He was one of the most talked about producer/dj!
Didn’t you collab with overplayed Garrix? That had some pretty hard kicks from my perspective.
What a joke. No wonder I never liked Afrojackoff
Talks about not using hard kicks. Did a collab with Martin Garrix. This guy has lost the plot.
