Mary J. Blige's New Album to Feature Disclosure and Sam Smith

Mary J. Blige has taken inspiration from the U.K. for her upcoming album called The London Sessions. After providing the vocals for Disclosure’s “F For You” back in January, Blige teams up with the talented brothers again for at least one track in her new album. The London Sessions, which was also co-produced by Disclosure, will also feature a “doo-wop” style song with Sam Smith.

What’s behind her attraction to the UK? Blige explains in an interview with The Guardian

“The sound in London at the moment is house music. That is what the majority of people are producing their songs like. But the ones that get truly successful are the ones using proper songwriting. Rudimental for example – they write proper songs and then produce them like dance music. And that is exactly what we’re trying to do, along with a few other people. But that applies to any genre, not just dance music. You could take the songs off Sam Smith’s album, produce them in a completely different way and they would still be a huge success – you could produce them like acid jazz and I still feel like they’d get somewhere.”

Disclosure has confirmed the collaboration:

It’ll be interesting to hear the mix of Blige’s R&B/soul vocals with Disclosure and Sam Smith’s unique styles. The London Sessions is set for release in November.
