Turn down for….a fake kidnapping?
A 32- year old British man faked his own kidnapping this past weekend in order to stay out partying without his girlfriend’s knowledge.
The man even went so far to have texts and phone calls from his “captor” sent to his girlfriend, saying that he would be released upon £50 bail (clearly he was worth a lot...) She of course then frantically notified police of the abduction.
Properties were searched, mobile phone data was analyzed, and the suspected criminal was even arrested, although he was later let go after admitting it was an elaborate prank to allow his friend to stay out later partying.
The man was soon found around 1:30 a.m. Saturday night at a house party, where he was given a fixed penalty and a criminal conviction on his record.
“Considerable resources and time then went into finding this man, who it transpires made the entire thing up so he could stay out and party. This is without doubt one of the most foolish and irresponsible incidents I have been involved in.” Detective Inspector Jo Clawson
Not only did his long night of party plans get cut short, but he is now deemed a criminal for wasting police time, and will probably soon be changing his relationship status to ‘single’ all because he refused to turn down.
